The Joy of the Harvest . . . Domestic Divahood . . . and Everything in Between . . .

We have enjoyed many delicious vegetables from our garden this summer. here is just a little sample of what we have harvested . . .

. . . and, a friend of mine shared her recipe (only four pages of recipe/instructions) for delicious Pugliese Bread. I finally found a day where I could be present enough to spend the time making the bread (that included remembering the night before to make the 'biga', which is a sponge starter that has to rise overnight in the refrigerator before using it). I think in total, there were six or seven steps that I had to remember to do in order, and at the right time, i.e. wait one hour, or every thirty minutes, do this, etc. But, I followed the directions, and ended up with two delicious loaves of Italian bread. We have already eaten both loaves, and I am trying to find another day, when I will have the time to devote to making more. I was a little disappointed with the look of the final loaves, but that means I have something to improve upon the next time I make them.
Sarah finally had her first day of school on Friday. Her preschool starts later than the other schools in the area, because the town fair takes place on the grounds around the building, and also inside the building where they hold classes. She was so ready for school to start, and we are all excited for a new year.
Today, we participated in a 5K Walk-a-thon sponsored by our Ward, to raise canned goods for a local food shelter. Sarah walked almost the whole thing, and had a wonderful time with friends.

Then, she went to a 'Superhero' Birthday party and had a wonderful time there as well. When we finally got home today, I was exhausted! But, it was a good day overall. When we asked the kids to smile for the photo, Sarah decided to do her superhero pose, and the other kids followed.

I love the look on Sarah's face in the photo below - she is having such a blast!

aren't gardens great! I really have never cared to have one until we "inherited" the one in our new house and now I don't know how I ever did without. the free food that just keeps coming and coming is wonderful. I am not as enthused about the work to maintain the "grounds" but the fresh food is so worth it.

I love 'domestic divahood'. That's cool. Try the 'No Knead bread' on the NYTimes website. It's way awesome and not as time consuming as other recipes I've tried. You do have to start it the night before, but it's not too involved.
