In fact, I have lately been pondering all of the things I want to be when I grow up, or at least when I have some time to take for myself, and here are just a few of the things I came up with: An artist (time, patience, and talent required - I'm a little lacking in all three), an athlete (time, willpower, and lack of laziness required - I seem to have an abundance of laziness these days), an adventurer (Oh to explore the great unknown - scary, yes - but oh, so appealing), a quilter (see requirements for 'artist' above), a creative writer (my inspiration is random and fleeting - can't see a career coming out of that), a photographer (ah, one can dream), a great reader (Lizzy Bennett has nothin' on me! - "I am not a great reader, and take pleasure in many things."), an outdoorswoman (I admit, I am a fair weather outdoorswoman, but I would like to be an all-weather, 'give me your worst, Mother Nature', kind of woman!)
So there you have it, some of my musings over the past weeks. As it stands right now, however, I love being a wife and mother, and so, all of my other (supposed) passions I will willingly put on hold to focus my time and energy on my darling husband and daughter.
But, I digress, "How DO you spend your free time," you ask? I have been spending much of it in the improvement of my surroundings - I have new carpet coming on Monday (to replace the teal, smells of dog carpet in the living room), and new blinds for the bedrooms arrived yesterday. Once the blinds are up in our room, I will be able to paint the walls (finally! - they are lavender (with plum carpet to boot) and I bought the new paint two months ago - I had to wait for the blinds so I could also get rid of the lilac curtains - I know, you are wondering why I would change such a lovely plum and lilac haven - that's just how I am.
Anyhoo, I did manage to get Sarah's room re-painted a few weeks ago, and here are the before and after shots. I even managed to find the time (during American Idol) to make a huge tree stencil for the wall and try a new sheen on sheen technique that makes the wall look just like a plain painted wall unless the light hits it just right. It turned out pretty cool in the end.

oooo! very cool with the tree. I think you have a career in art for sure. When I grow up I want to teach world history. secondly, I want to overcome my fear of flying and do some real world class traveling. top destination: china.
I too like the tree it's suttle yet captivating. Hmm what would I like to be, well I've always wanted to be a mom(check), photographer(working on it), a traveler of many lands(so far 26 States, 2 Canadien Provinces and the rest of the world to go), move things with my mind(Tried it, only got a headache),Sing in a girl punk rock band(adolescent fantasy).
Her room looks great and where did you get the tree stencil?
I love how you said "when I grow up"! There always seems to be an obstacle to what we want to do - too young, too poor, kids too young...sigh...my goals are to become proficient in photography, pottery, climbing and to TRAVEL! Top 3 trips - all the canadian rocky national parks (Yoho, Kootenay, Banff, Jasper), raft the Grand Canyon and see Havasupai falls, and hike to Everest Base camp. Care to join me?
I made the tree stencil with my own two hands. It took about seven pieces of posterboard stuck together to make it big enough, then I drew my tree on it, colored it in so I knew what I wanted to remove, and then cut it out. It was a TON of work, but I like the result.
I have been to Banff, and it is absolutely gorgeous! I would love to join you on your other adventures. My lifelong "Mountain Climbing" dream has been to hike Mt Kilamanjaro in Africa. Maybe we can do that after Everest and Havasupai:).
You have mastered the artist goal. That tree is very impressive. I really love it. Can I go on those trips? I may not be the outdoorsy woman you all are, but I love to travel. And who knows, maybe I WANT to be outdoorsy. :)
The tree looks amazing! I CAN believe you did that - you are so talented! Do we have to decide right now what we want to be when we grow up? I want to be a good mom (full of patience), and for a more exciting want, I'd like to own a classy little boutique (my designs), and own a little french bistro next door to it (where I decided the menu). Wouldn't it be great . . .
I love the blue walls, I am thinking of repainted Morgan and Claire's room a soft blue. The tree also looks fab, what a cool trick- I think the artist in you is fantastic!
What do I want to be? I want to be a college professor, I want to learn spanish, write a novel (in english, not spanish, though it would be cool if it eventually got translatted into spanish) and I want to be able to talk without putting my foot in my mouth. I keep thinking one day I will start acting mature, but I don't think its gonna take.
I love the tree, it's such a cool accent to the room. You are more of an artist than you realize.
I too want to travel when I grow up. Maybe we should all take a trip somewhere and leave the kids with our hubbies.
