Last year, I read a book that inspired me to attempt to make my own cheese . . . at home . . . by myself . . .
My sister was also inspired by the same book, and had acted upon the inspiration to great success. So, when she decided to come for a visit this summer, I got myself a beginner's cheese making kit, and got excited to have her help me make my very own mozzarella. Well, two gallons of whole milk, and two failed attempts later, we were still cheese-less. We could not figure out what went wrong. But, we were out of time, and my sis had to fly home.
I was determined, however to give it one more try, and, after tweaking the recipe a little, and consulting some online help, I officially became a maker of cheese . . . a mozzerella maven if you will.

The result? A beautiful ball of perfectly fresh spongy and delicious mozzerella. My hubby, who is a connoisseur of sorts of fresh mozzarella, gave it his best compliments.

wow. I am impressed. That looks so yummy. I love a good caprese.
Wonderful! Can't wait to learn your secret.
Yummy - that looks so good!
I think we read the same book. I got the kit and though it worked the first time (pat on the back) it was still a little too much work for me. All that kneading. I've made the ricotta lots of times though and we love it. I also always make my own yogurt from Martha Stewart's recipe. You should try it. You and your fam look great.
very impressive! Now I'm curious about the book that inspired all this culinary experimentation! What was it? My MIL has been making her own yogurt and is trying to get me to do it too.
"Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver.
