Bummer . . . .

I sincerely hope none of you have ever seen a frozen/burst pipe up close and personal, but for those of you with a morbid curiosity about them, this is what they look like . . .

. . . and this . . .
. . . and this.
Yes, that is correct, about two weeks ago, due to the single digit temps we have been experiencing in New England, the pipes in our spare room radiators froze and burst.  On the first above freezing day we had, they thawed out and began spewing water everywhere!  It ruined the carpet/pad in the spare room and the insulation/drywall in the garage below.  I had a few moments of sheer panic trying to decide what to do (I finally turned off the main water valve to the whole house), and several days of absolute stress trying to coordinate plumbers, disaster restoration workers, and the insurance company.  We are still waiting on estimates from the insurance company before we can get the carpet and drywall replaced, but in the interim, I decided to make the best of a bad situation, and repaint the room (it was the last room in my house that needed repainting, and would probably never have gotten done if something like this hadn't forced my hand).  But, it is now done, and here are the photos . . .

Before . . .

. . . and After (still waiting for carpet).

Nice painting job! And I always wondered what a burst pipe looked like--now I know!

The room looks great! I'm so sorry about the pipes - what a hassle!

wow. Love the green. what is that called? I am sorry you had to deal with that though. House stuff is stressful, especially when stuff is getting ruined. but I love the room, you did a great job.

Thanks. the green is called 'Smoky Slate' from Olympic brand paint. It is the same color we used in our bathroom in Pittsburgh, so I already knew I liked it. It made the the process much quicker to have a paint that I already knew I liked, and not to have to match it to some weird carpet color:).

I'm so excited to move somewhere that we don't have to worry about pipes freezing! That's been a concern for us some of these days lately! I love that paint color too :) My bathroom looks beautiful in smoky slate, I'm still glad I could copy that off you!
