Self Portrait in Technicolor . . .

Sarah has suddenly become really creative in her artwork. She will sit down with a blank sheet of paper and some crayons and come up with some wonderful drawings. This sudden creativity (okay, not really so sudden, but it is definitely more common now) coincided almost directly with the day that I threw all the old, cheap, and broken crayons in the trash can and purchased some good quality Crayola Twistables.  Just about the best purchase I have made recently.  Before, she spent most of her time peeling the paper off the crayons, or breaking them into tiny pieces, and now she directs all that energy into actually using the crayons, and I don't have to clean up the awful paper/colored wax mess that once was.  Awesome!

Some examples of this newly emerged talent:

"Self-portrait of her singing "I Know You" from Sleeping Beauty". She sang as she drew so that she could get the right number of notes.

And, this is "Self-Portrait by an Apple Tree"

And, my personal favorite, "Self-Portrait Swimming in a Pond".
I think I am seeing a pattern here . . .

very good! she has always been a little artist just like her Mom. I LOVE the twistable crayons. They write so smooth and are much more durable than anything else we've tried. My other best purchase was crayola washable paints. Luke and I love painting.

I love the one of her singing with all the notes! I'm surprised she wasn't dancing as she sang.

I'm going to buy those crayons because in the past week I've thrown away about 50 markers due to lost caps - so frustrating! the crayons would solve it all~ fun to catch up~ erin

I'm impressed with all the creative hands on activities you and Sarah do. She's going to be one talented artist!

FRAME these babies! I love when our kids start to show real interest and skill at something. Doesn't it make you so happy? And yeah...twistables are the only way to go. :)
